Higher History pupils should be memorising their extended essays in preparation for Monday’s official write up. The write up will start at 11.15am and end at 1.15pm.  As a result, you may wish to bring a packed lunch to eat afterwards.

Extended Essay Plan

Each pupil should come prepared with an essay plan. Here are some tips for writing your plan:

• 200 words max – 10 marks are deducated if you go over this
• Full words only – pictures, text language are not allowed
• Scored out words count towards your total word count
• Dates count as one word
• The use of colour and mind maps are allowed

The S3 exams are looming…….For History you should be revising the First World War topic.

 Here are some helpful hints for revising:

• Create a study timetable to make revision more manageable
• Traffic light your understanding of the sub-topics we have covered and start revising the sub-topics you are least confident about
• Come along to tutorials on a Monday night from 3.40pm until 4.30pm 
• Learn success criteria for each of the four enquiry skills’ type questions
• Practice answering exam questions and hand them in to be marked

All Higher History pupils should be carrying out research and note taking for their extended essay. Remember, examiners like to see originality so try to take a trip to the local library or use Google Scholar to access books and articles which are different from those in school.

The deadline dates below are your opportunity to gain feedback on how your essay is progressing. Please ensure you meet every deadline date. If you need any advice on any aspect of your essay then please come to see me.

Friday 24th February: Notes and basic plan

Thursday 1st March: Introduction and 3 paragraphs

Thursday 9th March: First complete draft

Friday 16th March: Final version completed

Possible date for official write up under timed conditions: Monday 26th March
