The first year Science course comprises 6 topics of study which help to prepare
pupils for further progress in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. After an
introduction to Science where pupils will learn about Scientific equipment and
how to carry out experiments safely in the lab.
The topics pupils will study are:
- Atoms & Molecules
- Elements & Compounds
- Energy
- Heat
- Energy for life
- The Living Body
Each topic offers pupils a variety of experiments and investigative techniques as well as opportunity for home study and is based on the learning outcomes of the Scottish Executive's Curriculum for Excellence guidelines. There will be an end of topic test to assess these outcomes as well as class talks, poster presentations and individual project work.
