S5-S6  Higher

Entry Level
While entry is at the discretion of the department, pupils would normally be expected to have attained one of the following:

  • A credit level award in Standard Grade Physical Education
  • A Credit Level award in English Standard Grade would be of benefit, or a higher pass in English.
  • Other relevant prior experience in Physical Education, including experience gained outwith certificated courses

Course Description
This involves participation in activities in which the group are interested.

Performance
Each student’s practical ability is assessed internally and checked by an SQA Moderator. This area is worth 2 credits
 
Performance analysis takes the form of a written exam which lasts 2 ½ hours. The course work will include class work towards this exam which involves monthly ink exercises. This area is worth 1 credit.

 
Progression
This higher is accepted by Universities as an entry qualification for any courses.
It would seem a logical step for anyone interested in pursuing a career in physical education or its related areas.

It should be noted that this course while being very practical by nature, does include a large amount of theory and writing. Clarification of your suitability should be sought from the Head of Department.

Please Note:
It is possible to participate in a course which concentrates solely on the completion of the practical performance units.

A course under Higher will be available either in the form of:

Performance Units, Modules or Intermediate 2. All dependent on local discussions.
