Aims
Pupils will be encouraged to:

  • Perform on a Solo Instrument
  • Perform in a Group Music Situation on a Second Instrument
  • Invent Music
  • Listen critically to a variety of musical styles

Content
The course develops skills learned in S1 and S2 Performing, Inventing & Listening

  • Pupils will learn one instrument for Solo Performing
  • Pupils will learn one instrument for Group Performing
  • Invent in the style of the unit
  • Listen to the style of music being performed and invented

The Units covered are:

  • The Music of Scotland
  • Blues & Jazz
  • Music of the Baroque & Classical Periods
  • Popular Music
  • 20th Century Music

Assessment
Within each unit, each element is assessed:

  • Group Performing - Taped Evidence
  • Inventing - Taped Evidence
  • Listening - Multiple Choice Paper (May/June of S4)
  • Solo Performing - Assessed by external examiner in March of S4
