Entry Level
A pass at Standard Grade at Credit level, including a pass at Credit
Writing, or pass at Intermediate 2.
Course
The course consists of two units, which are taught concurrently.
1. Language

Topics Lifestyles
- family relationships, friendship, hometown, leisure
- Education and Work
- school, employment and future careers
- The Wider World
- holidays, travel and tourism
Assessment
Reading and Listening are assessed at the end of each topic, (normally November,
February and April). Only ONE pass in each skill is required, which means that
if you pass in November, future assessments are really practice for the external
exam.
Speaking is assessed later, around Easter, to allow you as much time as possible
to improve your language skills. Your one Speaking assessment counts for both
your internal and external assessments.
2. Extended Reading / Viewing

Assessment
Writing only is assessed in this unit, but you will use as much of the
target languages as possible in working towards this, expressing your own
reaction to the characters and story.
External Exam
There are two papers, Reading/Translation and Directed Writing, which
lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes, and Listening/Writing which lasts 1 hour. Combined
with your Oral mark, these give you your final award.

To Advanced Higher, or to certain Further or Higher Education courses.
