Learning Resources Centre :
The Learning Resources Centre is situated on the first floor of the school and overlooks the Social Area.
The Learning Resources Centre (LRC)/Library supports learning and teaching in
all areas of the curriculum. Through its work in promoting reading it
contributes to the enhancement of literacy and to the personal development of
all pupils. The centre is equipped with a suite of 6 computers served by a
laser printer. This facility is available to teaching departments via a booking
system. Pupils in S6 with non-timetabled periods have priority access to computers.
The reference and lending collections total approximately 4000 books. Pupils in
S1 to S3 visit on a regular basis during English Department time to borrow
reading material. Pupils in all year groups have the opportunity to borrow and
return books and/or study after school until 4.00, and may also use the
facilities at lunch times by arrangement.
Learning Resources Centre activities
-
Induction for new pupils.
- Pupils entering S1 work through two induction sessions when they first visit the LRC with their English teacher. These sessions are designed to help them develop the skills necessary to locate and evaluate information in the LRC and to encourage them to read for enjoyment.
- Book Club
- A book club is run in conjunction with Scholastic Books and offers all pupils the opportunity to buy books at reduced prices.
- Reading promotion events
- The LRC organises a programme of events each year, including book fairs, author visits, and trips to the Edinburgh and Stirling book festivals.
