S1-S2
Aims
- To involve pupils in, and develop their enjoyment of, the past.
- To develop in pupils a knowledge and understanding of how events of the past affect and influence present day situations.
- To develop in pupils the ability to evaluate evidence, organise material, and present their findings in a coherent, logical manner.
- To encourage the practice of good written and oral communication skills.
- A variety of learning strategies are employed throughout S1-S6 ranging from classwork, talks, group work to plays, debates, videos and the use of ICT.
Course Content.
S1 pupils study 3 units:
- What is History? / Early People.
- The Scottish Wars of Independence.
- Your history
S2 Pupils study 2 units:
- Medicine through time
- Scotland and the SlaveTrade
These courses sample elements from Ancient History, the Middle Ages and Modern Times.
Assessment
Assessment for S1/2 pupils is done through class work, assessed talks,
independent learning and end of unit formal assessments.
