Entry to the Course.
English Higher A – C
Course Description
The course comprises three units which total 120 hours study. In addition
there is the provision of an additional 40 hours to support learning and
teaching.
At Advanced Higher level, students are offered a choice of units. There are
eight units available, arranged in two groups.
Group A
-
Unit 1 Language (40 hours)
- Unit 2 Literature (40 hours)
- Unit 3 Scottish Literature (40 hours)
- Unit 4 Scottish Language (40 hours)
- Unit 5 Reading the Media (40 hours)
Group B
-
Unit 6 Oral Communication (40 hours)
- Unit 7 Creative Writing (40 hours)
- Unit 8 Textual Analysis (40 hours)
Students will choose three units and must include one from Group A and one from Group B. Students must also submit dissertation associated with one of the units chosen from Group A.
Assessment
Assessment will be both internal (at the end of each unit) and external.
Each student must submit a dissertation for external assessment and,
depending on the units selected, will sit a 1 to 3 hour written exam at the
end of the course.
