Standard Grade Accounting and Finance at Credit level.
Course Description
Higher Accounting and Finance aims to identify, measure and communicate
financial and other related information to permit informed judgements and
decisions. The course comprises 2 mandatory units as follows:
- Financial Accounting
- Management Accounting
The Financial Accounting unit comprises the following areas of study:
- Manufacturing Accounts
- Financial statements and balance sheets for all business organisations
- Admission of a new partner
- Final accounts of non-profit making organisations
- Accounting ratios
- Financial Accounting regulations
The Management Accounting unit comprises the following areas of study:
- Role of the Management Accountant
- Classification and calculation of costs
- Preparation of cost statements and accounts
- Marginal costing and decision making
- Information Technology and accounting
- Budgets
- Use of spreadsheets
Assessment
To achieve the course award the candidate must pass all the Units as well as
the external assessment. The candidate’s grade is based on the external
assessment.
The external assessment is a question paper which will last 2 hours and 30
minutes.
Progression
Higher Accounting and Finance is acceptable for University entrance and for
those pupils who desire to make a career in the business world.
