Events @ Bannockburn High
RAF Visit
The RAF Maths Mission visited Bannockburn High School during the first week of December 2010. RAF officers delivered workshops to every third year pupil, allowing them the opportunity to see Maths being applied in the work place.
The interactive classroom-based workshops allowed pupils to see a range of mathematical techniques in real-life situations: deciding on cooking times using formulas; using 6 figure grid references and whole circle bearings to find items on a map; packing a Chinook helicopter with weighted packages.
This was a highly successful, enjoyable, three days allowing all S3 pupils a chance to further their numeracy skills in a cross curricular context, learning successfully in collaborative groups. Pupils expressed their enjoyment of working with the RAF and felt they benefited from the experience.
