S4 Prelims

The S4 prelims begin next week and the S4 timetable is suspended for the next two weeks. Pupils in S4 should only attend school for timetabled exams or for pre arranged discussions with staff.

PSA Monthly Prize Draw

It’s back and heading for another successful year. Pamphlets, detailing how the draw works, with an application form, have now been issued. Entry is open to staff, parents of pupils in the school and friends of the school. Friday 2 0th November is the deadline for signing up the draw. The first draw will take place at the end of November.

Anne McGuire MP Visit

Anne McGuire MP visited the school last week to meet with pupils undertaking Standard Grade Modern Studies. She outlined the role of an MP and discussed what life was like working between her constituency in Stirling and the House of Commons in London. The pupils then discussed current issues of the day with Anne, focusing on the recent MPs expenses scandal, whether or not she still supported the Government decision of going to war in Iraq and how appropriate or fair is it for a Scottish MP to be able to vote on devolved issues such as Health and Education at Westminster. The pupils certainly found this both interesting and rewarding.

Prison Visits

Advanced Higher Modern Studies pupils have been out visiting Polmont YOI and Cornton Vale over the past few weeks. The visits have played a crucial role in giving the pupils a greater understanding of the role and function of prisons in modern society. The pupils were also given a tour of the prisons, gaining an insight into prison conditions and facilities and also looking at educational and rehabilitation programmes available to prisoners.

‘Grease’

Tickets are now on sale from the school office, priced £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and £18 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children). The show takes place in the school Lecture Theatre on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th December at 7.30pm.
