Welcome Back
Pupils were welcomed back to school last week, at a series of assemblies
conducted by the Rector, Mr McAlpine and other members of the Senior
Management Team where the priorities for the term ahead were set out.
Dance Competition
Before the end of term in June, the annual dance competition took place and
as always the dancers put on an excellent show. The standard was excellent
and the judges, Miss Simpson, Mrs Smith, Mrs Duncan and Mr Sander found it
very difficult to decide on a winner. However the overall winners of the
junior category were Jade Falconer and Alex Gow and the winners in the
Senior category were Sheryl Hillhouse and Toni Bruce, with an amazing tap
routine. Well done to all who took part and helped to raise £306 which will
be donated to Rachel House.
PSA Prize Draw
Congratulations to the June winners. The £50 prizes went to Mrs Scott
(parent) and Ms Esmail (staff) while the £25 prizes went to Mrs Mooney
(parent) and Mr Halcrow (staff). The PSA Prize Draw will return in the
autumn.
Staffing News
As last year there are a number of new faces joining the staff at this time.
A warm welcome is extended to Mr Forsyth (Technical), Miss Potts and Miss
McKinney (PE) Mr Thomson (Music), Miss Evans and Miss Blair (English) and
Mrs Anderson (Modern Studies). We also note the temporary appointments of Mr
Chaudry (Maths) and Ms Stewart and Miss Simpson to Pupil Support.
There was also a retirement at the end of last session with Mr Shields of
the Maths department leaving the school after a number of years. We would
like to wish him both a long and enjoyable retirement.
Edinburgh Book Festival
On Monday a number of S3 pupils from the English Department were given the
opportunity to go to the Edinburgh Book Festival to meet and listen to
various authors talking about their recent work. A full report in next
week’s news.
