Geography Trip
The Advanced Higher Geography class went to Bridge of Allan to carry out
some human geography fieldwork. They joined up with Advanced Higher pupils
from Dunblane High. Pupils worked in pairs to conduct various surveys along
Henderson Street regarding land use, traffic flow, pedestrian counts and car
parking facilities. The pupils found the experience an enjoyable and
beneficial one. The best part was getting out of the rain for a bite to eat
at the Allan Water Café afterwards!
Health & Well Being
Congratulations to Kayleigh Dudgeon, Sheryl Hillhouse, Trisha Couper, Lauren
Candlish, Eilidh Henry and Collette Ross who gave a fantastic presentation
to health professionals at the Health and Wellbeing conference on Friday
24th October. The girls were sharing good practice and discussing their
experience of the Girls Health Club and The Girls In Sport initiative in
Bannockburn high School.
Science Workshop
Ms Powell from the Physics Department visited East Plean primary last week
as part of their Celebration Day in relation to light, colour and the onset
of winter . She delivered a science workshop for the pupils on the theme of
light and colour. A group of pupils who used to attend East Plean Primary
assisted her on the day.
Scottish Parliament Visit
The S5/6 Higher Modern Studies pupils visited the Scottish Parliament last
week. Whilst their they visited the Art exhibits in the main entrance,
watched General Question Time and First Ministers Question Time which they
found to be highly enjoyable. Afterwards they were treated to a VIP tour of
the Parliament by Bruce Crawford and Christopher Harvey MSPs. Pupils had the
opportunity during this visit to speak with Nicola Sturgeon MSP and Jack
McConnell MSP. The final highlight of the day was a visit to the Debating
Chamber where pupils sat along the front benches and in the seat of the
First Minister.
Mini Trial Event
A number of Intermediate 2 Modern Studies pupils took part in the
Stirlingshire Schools Mini Trial Event, held at Stirling Sheriff Court, this
week. Pupils took on various roles, from legal experts to the sheriff and
jury members to the actual accused. Pupils also gained a first hand
knowledge of the criminal justice system and the court procedures and
practices.
PSA MONTHLY PRIZE DRAW
It’s back and heading for another successful year. Pamphlets, detailing how
the draw works, with an application form, have now been issued. Entry is
open to staff, parents of pupils in the school and friends of the school.
The first PSA draw will take place at the end of November.
German Theatre Visit
Last Tuesday the school’s 3rd year German class went to Queen Victoria
School, Dunblane to see the German play “Nichts zum Anziehen” (Nothing to
wear). The action centered on two teenagers, Jessica and Stefan, who are
getting ready to go out on their first date. It was very easy for us to
relate to the two teenagers. Thanks to the simplicity of the language and
the quality of the acting we were able to understand all that was going on
and we thoroughly enjoyed the juice and curly wurly at the end. We are very
grateful to Queen Victoria School for inviting us along.
