The Science Workshops
Wearing lab-coats and goggles 3 senior pupils got off to a flying start with
their Higher Chemistry and Physics courses by participating in science
workshops at Edinburgh University. In an event organised by WHAN Lauren
Clark, Lindsay McGregor and Kelly McDonagh got the opportunity to examine
DNA and conduct experiments with ultrasound .They got to see first hand how
science solves medical problems, investigates illness and keeps us healthy.
Meeting health professionals and students, the pupils also got a unique
insight into what it would be like to study a healthcare subject at
university.
Tremendous Tullibardine Trip
On Friday 5th September, the S5/6 Higher Accounting class, travelled to
Blackford to visit the Tullibardine Distillery. The class toured the
distillery before receiving a presentation from the firm’s management
accountant. Thomas, a distillery employee, led the group around the
distillery and they learned about the history of the establishment, the
process of whisky distillation and the process of maturation, in sherry and
bourbon casks. The spirit must remain in the casks for a minimum of 3 years
before it can be classified as a whisky. After the tour, the role of the
management accountant was brought to life through a presentation by the
accountant, Christine. The talk was very informative and lots of information
on the process of becoming a management accountant, the different careers
that are available and Christine’s role in a small manufacturing company was
gleaned. Overall the experience was very beneficial and will help the class
with their studies and career choices over the coming months. See the
full report
