Christmas Concert
A splendid evening of music making was the reward of the large audience who
turned out to school before the holidays. The Christmas concert featured around
150 performers from S1-6 and staff, all playing their parts with a cheerful
enthusiasm appropriate to the season. The music offered covered a wide range
from Christmas favourites such as ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ and ‘O Come All
Ye Faithful’ to popular tunes including Waterloo, Follow your Dream, Winter
Wonderland and I Have a Dream. There were items from the senior vocal group and
junior and senior recorder groups, the junior guitar ensemble and the Scottish
group. The school choir, with the addition of 18 staff members, sang four songs
and the school band closed the show finishing in fine style with a Christmas
medley. The solo performers were :- Paul Barbour, Claire Campbell, Nicholas
Cunningham, Catherine Forsyth, Nadine Fowler, Andrew Kimmitt, Robert Kimmitt,
Callum Nicol, Connor Sharp, Alasdair Keane, Amber Howland and Rebecca McGhie.
Thanks also to the Music Department, Mr Millar, Miss Matuszak and Mrs Finlay for
the extensive planning and organisation that went into staging such a successful
event.
Dynamic Earth Trip
On Friday 7th December pupils attended Dynamic Earth to discover what
happened to the earth through time and learn more about their current topic in
geography, climate change. The trip was a great success and all pupils were good
ambassadors for the school.
Dynamic Earth was a very productive and interesting experience for us. We were
taken into a time machine and we saw what has happened through time and how the
earth has changed, due to climate and the wars. We also enjoyed the volcano
simulator too. We were shown what would happen in a volcano eruption and we
experienced the smells, heat and movement of a proper eruption. One of the
highlights of the experience was the Ice age where we saw a mini glacier and
learnt about what it was like during the Ice Age. We got taken through the
future in another simulator where we had to choose our own future. We had to
make decisions about population control in Scotland but our choices didn’t
result in a very bright future! We then had a talk about climate change and
looked at some real fossils of animals which existed during past ice ages. We
saw a mammoth’s tusk, a sabre tooth tiger’s skull and a cave bear’s mauler
teeth. We learned a lot throughout this trip to Dynamic Earth and were glad that
we could take part in it!

Earthquakes and volcanoes
All around the world

Panto Visit
Recently 31 pupils visited the panto at the MacRobert in Stirling to see
Cinderella, accompanied by Mr Wales and Mrs Baillie. The most popular thing
about the show was the two ugly stepsisters who wore tight leggings and were
played by men! The Francies group performed that afternoon. All the pupils and
teachers really enjoyed – it was the highlight of our year so far.
